saves&tray disappeared, mods not appearing in game

hello. basically, i haven't played the sims in a while and before i stopped playing everything was fine. two days ago, i decided i would play. i launched the ea app and i could not start the game because i had to update it first so i updated it. afterwards, i tried to start the game and the game did not open. instead i received a pop up saying the game was unable to start due to a file being corrupted. it listed the mod. i used the 50/50 method and i removed 4 mods/cc. after that the game started but i noticed the menu screen was different and there was no option for me to load my save. the sim also looked like a white silhouette. i start a new game to see if anything else is not working and i notice a lot of the cc i have in my mods folder are not appearing in game. (i have a lot of cc and most of it was there but not all) also, there was an issue with unusual icons appearing in cas but i solved it with updating color sliders and more columns mod. after that, i figured i would use my backup files in another flash drive to place into the empty saves and tray folder. when i plugged in the flash drive and opened the folders i made as back up, i saw there was nothing in any of the folders. i had other files in the flash drive like pictures that got nothing to do with sims, but they were still there.

im on windows and saw someone suggest to look into one drive but theres nothing that could help me there. i checked the local disk and the other drive i have and theres nothing.

ive been playing many years/hours and this has never happened before. will i just have to start from the beginning? please help me 😢

  • @chalaaa03  Try searching your computer for any stray saves.  Open a File Explorer window, click This PC in the left panel, and enter Slot_ in the search field in the upper-right corner.  If the search finds any saves, select one and click the "Open file location" menu button, and you'll jump to where that save is, which will hopefully be where the rest of your missing content is as well.

If you find any saves or other content, you can move the files back to the appropriate subfolders within the Sims 4 user folder.  But make sure you're viewing the correct folder in the first place, as in, the one the game is reading.  Here's how to find its location:

If you want to see the full file path of any file or folder, right-click it and select Properties, then look for the Location in the General tab.

I don't know why your backups would disappear from your flash drive unless you were using some program that syncs data automatically.

@chalaaa03  Then I'm sorry, but it sounds like your content is gone for good.

I know it doesn't help now, but this is why it's so important to make frequent backups of your saves or anything else you'd be upset to lose.  (And that goes for data in general, not only Sims 4 content.)  You never know when a computer issue will wipe your data, or at least some of it, and backups mean you'll never be in danger of losing everything.
