Shorter Teen Height Via Mods
This is more of a theoretical post than anything as, sadly, I do not have the required knowledge to follow through with what I am about to propose.
As we know, we will never officially obtain shorter teens in our games no matter how much we would like it or how often we ask.
A modder known as simmythesim on modthesims though has proven that it is possible.
He has created a set of custom sliders which can be applied to Sims once they have exited CAS for the first time and been placed in game. One of these such sliders affects height allowing for Sims to be made taller or shorter.
If you would like to take a look at the mods in question, you can find them here> http://bootstrap.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=571799
Simmythesim has sadly decided to discontinue the development of the mods which were looking extremely promising. They already worked.
What I was wondering was if the game was set up in such a way that would allow something similar to simmythesim's mod to be created to affect height and tied to a hidden trait that would be applied to Teen aged Sims?
The only thing that is really preventing me from using simmythesim's mod in my game is the requirement to manually apply the slider to the Sims you want to use it on. It would be great if the game could automatically apply the new slider to a set value once a Sim reaches the Teen stage and then have the hidden trait removed once they reach the Young Adult stage.
I know EA's official response is that they will not create shorter teens as that would require them to author a ton of new animations to specifically fit the shorter height but I can't see why. If you use the mods I link to here to make your Teens shorter, they all behave perfectly well. The animations play without issue and I never once, in my own game, came across any level of clipping any worse than what is already considered acceptable when Adult arms clip into bar surfaces and the like.
If their argument is that social interactions such as kissing would not line up then there really isn't an issue. Teens can't romantically interact with Sims of other age groups anyway and if all teens were the same height, this wouldn't matter at all.
I'll stop now, I can sense myself starting to ramble. Anyway, these were my thoughts on how to impliment a shorter Teen height via mods for those that want it.
