Sims 4 always crashes with my saves, mods and tray items in the Sims 4 folder

hi, i've been dealing with this problem for a week. the only sure way to open is removing the sims 4 file and opening game for a totally new sims 4 file. i've tried every single troubleshooting method:

  • resetting & uninstalling origin
  • uninstalling sims 4
  • moving sims 4 out of EA folder, then opening it for new folder
  • copy and pasting old files back into new folder
  • putting one folder back and opening sims 4 to see what is causing it to not load
  • updating computer
  • restarting computer

but every time it seems to be something new. if I put the tray files into the newer one, it causes it to not open. if I put the save files, it seems to not respond. but I don't want to lose all my gallery items by deleting the tray files. i've been playing for almost 2 years and haven't had this happen. it has given me 2 popups telling me two certain CC items are corrupted and the game can't open, but i've deleted them. I just want to play and don't know if upgrading to EA app when it comes out will make it any better.

Edit - edited title to more accurately reflect issue (Bluebellflora)

The problem is something in your user data in the Sims 4 folder, EA App has nothing to do with this. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game and Origin also has nothing to do with this.

The Tray folder stores households, rooms and Lots in your in-game Library which is local on your machine, not the Gallery. Once you upload items to the Gallery they will always be there even if you trash the Tray folder. The Gallery is online, the Library isn't.

A new clean Sims 4 folder works, as you have tested. You need to test your saves by copying them into the new saves folder one at a time, testing to see if the game launches after adding each one. Do not save after loading the game each time.

Do the same with your Mods/CC.

Do the same with yourTray files although there are multiple files for each Library item so make sure you have the Tray files in Modified order in Finder to grab all files related to one item. Every single household/room/Lot will have a set of files with the exact same timestamp, like this:

thank you. I did what you said but the problem seems to lie in the actual cc folders regardless of what I do... I have my cc separated into "man" and "woman" for easy sorting, and then subfolders, but even when I take out those subfodlers it refuses to open. I think i might just have to completely redownload cc, unfortunately.

weirdly enough, my mods that come with cc don't do anything though, like the royalty mod or regency mod.

@mangolingo1031 Start by removing your whole Mods folder (drag it to your desktop) and deleting the file called localthumbcache. Then start the game to see if it loads. This will create fresh game folders as well.

After that, check for mod updates and test with those. Not all creators are covered at AHQ, but you can start with the list here: Broken/Updated Mods Anything that's not covered there, check with the creator. An enormous percentage of mods needed updating in the last 6 weeks, so you should aim to be on fresh copies. Check installation instructions too - many modders have been changing these recently.

Once those are working, you can start putting batches of CC back in and testing them. Any time your remove or replace a file in the new Mods folder, delete localthumbcache.
