I asked my friends about it and they seemed to download the movie cinema fine. It showed up in their library.
Well, since I don't know which lot you're referring to... You said "Movie Cinema" and I found one by "jenba-sims" called "Newcrest Cinema" with tray files that had CC as well.
I tried it and it worked just fine. The files were in a zip file in a subdirectory. I just ignored the subdirectory and placed the 8 files themselves directly in my tray folder, ran the game, and it showed up half-way down my list. I had to turn on Advanced/Show Custom Content in the "My Library" tab before it would show up. I placed the lot, went into build mode and it looked fine, (except for all the missing CC)
So, even if you don't have the CC, the lot will show up fine in your library, it'll just be missing all the CC.
One thing to remember, if the maker of the lot used the moveobjects cheat to place things, you'll need to have it turned on before placing the lot or some of the items will move around...
testingcheats on
bb.moveobjects
{place the lot}
bb.moveobjects
testingcheats off
Have you tried different ones? I have one I made that's got no CC. It uses stuff from a lot of different packs, but no CC.
Edit: The only thing I'm not sure about is what would happen if the tray files contained items from say, "Realm of Magic", and you don't have that pack installed? I have them all so that won't happen to me.

@Psychotps
Just for reference, you don't need testing cheats enabled to use MOO (though it works just fine with testing cheats enabled also), but you forgot to add 'on' after 'bb.moveobjects'. So...Open the cheats panel:With your lot open in build mode, press Shift+Control+C to open the cheat console box (upper left of your screen)Enter the following in the cheat code box:bb.moveobjects on (press enter)
You will see a confirmation message: “MoveObjects cheat is ON”To turn off the MOO cheat enter the following in the cheat code box:
bb.moveobjects off (press enter)
You will see a confirmation message: “MoveObjects cheat is OFF”
Edit: Oops...
@Psychotps I'm so sorry... I never realized that if testing cheats were on you don't need the 'on' after typing in the moo cheat. Wow. Thank you, I learned something new!! 🙌

You don't even seem to need to enable testingcheats anymore. Just entering bb.moveobjects will enable MOO and entering it again will disable it. Who knew? 🙂 - Psychotps6 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora Interesting, that's just how I've always done it. It's always worked, so I never changed.

Didn't show up.
I doubt there's a possibility I'm missing files.
What if I delete my tray file and load up the sims to let it generate a new one?

Make sure you keep a backup. That directory contains all houses and sims in your library. Removing them won't stop the game from working, but if I were to lose stuff in my library, I'd be devastated.
Make sure you're putting the files themselves and not the subdirectory into the tray folder. That zip file I found "Newcrest Cinema" had the tray files in a subdirectory inside the zip. Don't put the subdirectory inside your tray folder. It likely won't work. Just the tray files themselves. - 6 years ago
I'm probably gonna look like an idiot right now, but I have two Tray folders so maybe I put it in the wrong folder?
There's one that's
Documents > Electronic Arts > Tray
And another
Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Tray
- SheriGR6 years agoHero
@serendiqiity You have two tray folders? Is your game reading either of them? Is the second folder named "Tray_copy" or something? The game's only designed to see one "Tray" folder.
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@serendiqiity The game won't read the contents of Documents > Electronic Arts > Tray. Everything needs to be in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Tray.
IDK. I've been saving builds from the gallery and sims I've created to my library successful so I assume so.
It's just Tray no _copy no ⚽ just Tray. both of them

Apparently ( 1) turns into a soccer ball lol

@serendiqiity You don't look like an idiot at all - that's a good question. And sorry, I mistakenly thought you had two 'Tray' folders in the Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Tray folder. The game will only see/read the one 'Tray' folder that's located inside the "The Sims 4" folder. That particular 'Tray' folder will hold the contents that you see in your Library in the game.
Ah okay that makes sense.
I put the tray folders in Documents > Electronic Arts >The Sims 4 > Tray and the builds appeared!
Thank you for all of your help!!! @SheriGR @puzzlezaddict @Psychotps

Does the other 'Tray' folder contain the files you have been having trouble viewing in your game? (Please see my last comment. If so...
- Make a copy of your 'The Sims 4' onto your desktop before trying this (as a backup, save it on your desktop or something).
- Then open the 'Tray' folder located at... Documents > Electronic Arts > Tray and copy all of the files inside that folder.
- Next, paste all of those files into the tray folder that's in the correct location, which is the one the game is reading... Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Tray
- Now restart the game and see if the houses and content that you were trying to add to the game is in your library.

@serendiqiity Too funny... while you were figuring it out I was 'step-by-stepping' you though that in a separate message (composing it)!! Lol!! I'm so happy all of your builds are now appearing in your library. Have fun! 🙌

Hi I seem to be having the same sort of problem but it’s just that NONE of the builds I have downloaded have worked ? I have doing it all right
documents>electronic arts> The sims 4 legacy edition> tray
I don’t think that it would do this because I have legacy edition as I have quite a lot of cc
although a lot of the cc I download doesn’t show up in game so I’m really stuck of what to do please can you help ?
- SheriGR5 years agoHero
@xxkeeleypxx I'm thinking it may be useful to you to read through the information on the Legacy Edition on this webpage: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2019/11/sims-4-legacy-edition-2/
Since the Legacy Edition will not include or accept/need any updates or new packs since Realm of Magic, I would guess that it may be possible that if you added any Mods/CC after that time or which were updated to accommodate packs or game versions from after the release of the Legacy Edition you may run the risk of a conflict with your edition - or that may be the reason the CC is not showing up now?
The Legacy Edition does not include the Gallery and cannot download things you choose from the gallery. Please see the link above for more information and a more thorough explanation.

my tray is on the sims 4 and it still isnt being read
- SheriGR4 years agoHero
@Ds4314 Does your tray folder have any folders inside of it (the game cannot read folders inside it, only files)? For example, in my tray folder I only see files (not folders) who's name ends with things like .bpi, .sgi, .hhi, .trayitem, .rmi, .room, .blueprint, .householdbinary. Those are the files my library can read in my game.
