Sims 4 keeps lagging out and crashing whenever I do university work

This has been happening for a couple of weeks now and I've tried just about everything from deleting the localthumbcache to reparing the game from Origin multiple times. What I have noticed is that this only happens when I'm using the university expansion pack, particularly when I am doing any coursework (homework, presentations, essays). It'll start lagging out for a bit before freezing and telling me that "Sims 4 is not responding." Is anyone else experiencing this?
