Sims 4 Not Launching on MacBook Air

Hi all,

Since the game update that introduced automatic patches/updates without having to update the game through Origin, I have been unable to play the Sims 4 on my Mac. I have tried absolutely everything--I have repaired the game through Origin countless times, updated and restarted my computer, cleared cache, deleted all CC and mods, moved the game files to my desktop - nothing works. I won't even get a loading screen when I try to launch the game- it just doesn't open and if I hover over the app icon it says "application not responding."

One thing that kind of worked was moving the game files to my desktop. It got the game to launch again, but it told me I needed to restart to apply new updates and turn on mods/cc. I turned mods and cc back on, restarted, and now it's the same issue again. This made me think it must be a mod/cc causing the issue, and after deleting all one by one, the issue still persists, so I don't know if that's what's causing it.

Can anyone help me? Here's the info on my Mac:

MacBook Air 13.3 inch

M1, 2020

Chip: Apple M1

Memory 8 GB

macOS Sonoma 14.1.1

My Sims 4 is completely up to date. Let me know any other information that may be needed!

Kristin

Moved to the Game Mods forum. Your game loads without CC/Mods but doesn't with CC/Mods. You need to figure out which CC/Mods are causing the issue by starting with a clean folder again, making sure all your Mods are compatible with the current patch level of the game, then adding them back into the new Mods folder a few at a time, checking the game works after adding each batch. Hopefully someone here will be able to help you further.
  • hi, ive been having the same issue for about 3 weeks now. ever since the update, my game hasn't been responding and I've tried literally everything, everything you named as well. I even went to the Apple store to see if it was an issue with my mac, but they told me it must be an issue with the new Sanoma update. if anybody has figured out a way to fix this, please let me know! I'm just waiting for a new update at this point.

yes, sims 4 seems to work without any mods. i’ve tried everything i can think of, even everything the user above named. i didn’t find any broken mods or anything that could mess with my files.

@emmymaurice In that case, you'll need to do a 50-50 on your Mods folder. This means organizing the files there into bite-size batches (with any files they require, like XML Injector or a Core Library mod or mesh) and testing one batch at a time. For each test, delete the file called localthumbcache, then put only that batch in Mods. If your game behaves as you expect, set that batch aside as "cleared" and delete localthumbcache again. If it doesn't behave as you expect, take out half the batch and see if you're closer to finding the culprit. Remember to delete localthumbcache each time. You'll find some 50-50 method tutorials online too. Once you isolate the file, you can go find out if there's an updated version.

yes, i have already done that step, twice. they all work until I put them all together. since doing a little more research, it seems like maybe the new Sanoma update is messing things up a little. so now I guess ill just be waiting for another update?

The game runs fine in macOS Sonoma. Your game works without Mods but not with your combination of Mods. Something in your Mods folder is causing this, could be an outdated Mod, broken Mod or Mods conflicting. Do the 50/50 method to figure out which Mod(s) is the trigger to breaking your game. It’s annoying and requires effort but is sometimes required when adding 3rd party content into your game.
  • I am experiencing this too, i have reinstalled the game multiple times, i have no mods, I am running the same specs except that my sonoma is on 14.6
