sims 4 not launching

i am a mac user and use origin (of course) and a few days ago i installed sims 4 studio to fix some mods and fix a couple that had in the instructions to fix in studio. i disallowed cc for random because seeing cc on townies that doesn’t match at all gives me the ick. i also removed fashion tags from the hsy patch fix and ever since i cannot get my game to open. i removed my sims 4 folder and had the finder make a new one and it worked then i added my old saves into the new folder and ran it and it again worked. i didn’t think it was a mod since i stay up to date and never download from an untrusted sight and i don’t have any other sims games to accidentally get the cc mixed up. i added my old mods folder from before i removed the whole sims 4 folder and it wouldn’t launch. i uninstalled the game and still wouldn’t work. i uninstalled origin and it still wouldn’t work. i uninstalled s4s and still wouldn’t work. when i removed my mods folder it worked but i want to know what is wrong with my cc since i have a whole save file with cc and spent hours making it. is it something with s4s or is it just something with my mods? i also removed all mods and cc and added back slowly and to no avail still. i desperately need help 😭😭😭

First off, afaik, you don't change mods with S4S, you create and change CC with it.  What this sounds like is that you changed something in your mods folder and that is what is keeping the game from running.  My guess is that it's probably some type of default replacement, but it could be anything really.  The good thing about S4S is that it doesn't alter the original files, it puts them in a backup folder in the S4S folder in Documents and writes new copies of them with your changes in the mods folder.  So, you should have a backup unless you saved things twice.

I did about the same thing a while back.  My game would start afterwards but sims looked really wonky.  It took me a couple of days to find that the problem was default replacement feet that the batch fix altered.  Putting the original file back fixed it.  So, lesson learned was to separate all my default replacements out, so I don't run a batch fix on them ever again.

To fix this, you are going to have to go through your CC now and figure out which file or files that got altered are giving you the problem.  Then replace those with the originals from the backup folder, from the original downloads, or download them again.  You might be able to just copy all the backup files that were moved to the backup folder over their copies in the mods folder then start again with your project to get rid of the random tags.  Up to you how you do it.

    Hope this helps.

I did everything you suggested. I even took hours adding my mods and cc back one at a time and nothing. I used sims 4 mod manager to disable everything. nothing. I repaired the actual game. nothing. I have spent days trying to fix this and am getting no where. am I just going to have to face the Music and delete everything and start from scratch? or is there anything else I can do to fix this problem.

  • I also want to add that it wasn't a default replacement issue you had mentioned because I don't use them. I just never really see the need. all I use are recolor options that go along with the original mesh or just use the games product

Sims 4 Mod Manager could actually be part of your problem. It likes to rename files, making it very easy to end up with installation problems and duplicates. I strongly advise against using it.

If you can open Sims when there's nothing in the Mods folder then the issue is something in there. The timing could be coincidence with the changes you made, so it might not be related to the CC you changed. I'd suggest redownloading as much of the content you use as possible from Curseforge or modders' own sites but manage it yourself. Check against Broken/Updated Mods for a selection of mods to not redownload. For the CC, start with the backup files that S4S made.
