Sims 4 Packages not working

I have been playing The Sims 4 for years, and I recently got interested in trying mods for the game. I have some pretty cool ones that I'd like to try. The problem is that the mods that are in .package files show up in the mods list in game, but they aren't active. For example, I have the Eternal Youth and Immortal mod as a .package file, but the buyable traits don't show up in game. The mods that are just in file folders work just fine, I have no problems with them. I want to use the mods that use the .package file format, but I'm not sure how. I'm not sure if I have to extract the files and put them in the mods folder, or just what. I've searched everywhere on the internet for an answer to this problem, but I haven't seen anything that has helped me. I'm feeling very frustrated at the moment! I would appreciate any help that can be offered.
