Sims 4 refuses to open with cc

I haven't been able to play with my modded game for about a month now. Initially I was told that by my macbook that my game wasn't launching because my cc/mods were corrupted, and so I tried deleting the mods they told me to, did the 50/50 method, repaired my game, uninstalled and reinstalled it etc. Nothing was working. Mod folders that were ok the first time round when trying the 50/50 method would suddenly also be apparently corrupted, and it would just send me on a wild goose chase trying to find what was messing up my game. It's just every time I tried to launch the game, something new was corrupted. I eventually just got fed up and took my mods folder out and deleted it, and then of course it would open. I'm sick of playing vanilla now, so I've tried to restart downloading my mods. My game is updated to the latest version, as well as all the cc/mods I've downloaded and my game still refuses to open. I don't know what could be wrong. I'm pretty sure my mods are fine, as I've tried to keep script mods to a minimum, and my mods folder is at a fraction of the size of what I usually play with, so idk what to do now. I'm sorry if my explanation isn't clear. If anyone has some advice and can help me, I'll try to clarify further.

Move your Mods folder to the Desktop and delete localthumbcache.package. Then test the game in a new save.
If it works now check for updates to your Mods and CC. Add it back a little at a time while testing until you have found all that are broken.

  • @tiredvillainess You might want to do a full reset:

    1. Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
    2. Run a Game Repair
    3. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options.
    4. Start with New to test if your issue recurs.

If that works, start putting old content back into the new folders.

@luthienrising Hi, so I did this and it really wasn't working, so I ended up restarting my mods folder all over again. It finally started to work recently, but since the new update, the same problem has recurred with my mods/cc apparently being corrupted again, even though most of my mods are new with less than 10 script mods, and like a 1/3 of what I've played with before. The time it takes to load for my game to open has gotten longer despite the downsizing. I really am so frustrated that nothing feels like its working. Do you have any other advice?

@tiredvillainess It really can be just quantity still. Everyone's computer setup has a limit to what its hardware can prcess. If the issue is how long Sims 4 takes to start, one thing to do is to turn off the game setting that shows the list of CC/mods on startup. If it's your save load time, that's about the size of your save. You can try manually deleting households in Household Manager (if you have tons of them) and deleting photographs from Sim inventories and walls.

@tiredvillainess  What are the full specs of your Mac?  Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, select About This Mac, and list everything there except for the serial number.  Please also list the free and total storage; here's how to find it:

    https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/storage-space-mac-syspf9b375b9/mac

Please also let us know whether iCloud Drive is syncing the contents of your Documents folder.  Here's how to check:

I'm not saying you need to change any settings now, just asking about your current setup.

I have an M1 2020 MacBook Air. Memory is 8GB and macOS is Sequoia 15.1.1
I have 245 GB of total storage, and so far I've used 190GB with 54GB left over.
My iCloud is 50 GB and full. I don't think everything I've downloaded is synced to iCloud, but I've been able to play for months with no problem before despite this.
That's my spec list so far.

@tiredvillainess  Your Mac should be able to handle Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings, more or less, with a sizable collection of mods and custom content.  So if the problem isn't the individual files you're testing, and they're not directly conflicting, then this is probably about system settings.

Please create a new admin account on your Mac.  Don't link it to your Apple ID, which means no iCloud Drive access (which is part of the point).  Download a few mods that are working separately but not together on your main account, and test them together in the new account.

The idea here is to see whether the problem is something on your main account, iCloud Drive or otherwise, without your needing to change any settings there.
