sims 4 wont launch in ea app

Hi, so I was playing TS4 about two hours ago with no problems, left it, added some new cc, and then the game wouldn't launch anymore. After pressing play in the EA App, it would disappear like it was going to start, but then it would reappear after a few seconds. So, I removed the new cc. Nothing changed. I cleared the cache on the EA app. Nothing. I restarted my computer. I ended the EA back service in task manager. I ran it as an administrator. What did work was taking The Sims 4 folder out of the Documents > Electronic Arts and putting it on my desktop. Everything loaded, so I thought I could add my saves and mods back. Bad idea! It wouldn't launch again. So I tried taking the Mods folder out, may have been a stupid idea, and it still won't start. I've learned that trying to fix things myself might not be the best and I'm scared to ruin anything else, so I decided to come here. I'm currently in a spot where I have a TS4 folder in the Documents > Electronic Arts area that has no Mods folder and a saves folder that has all my saves in it. I still have the previous folder on my desktop. I'm not sure what to do from here and I'm kinda scared to try anything. Thanks in advance to anyone who tries to help me! I'll gladly provide any screenshots or technical stuff if I just have instructions on how to get it.

  • @bibwu  When you launch Sims 4 with no Mods folder in place, the game will generate a new one.  So that's normal and not a cause for concern.

In case it's relevant, a few players have reported that their game doesn't start a second time in a row unless they restart their computer in between tries.  I've suggested killing the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager as a workaround, but apparently it only helps some players.  Point is, please make sure that this isn't the issue.  As in, if the game doesn't start while you're troubleshooting, restart your computer but change nothing else and test again.

Other than that, it sounds like the problem might be something in your Mods folder, and you'll need to test the files to figure out what.  The 50/50 method can make the process a lot more efficient.

If adding even one mod or cc item causes the game to stop working, please download a fresh copy of a file you know is compatible with the current patch, and test that as well.

If none of this helps, is OneDrive running on this computer?  It may help to pause syncing, which you can do by right-clicking the cloud icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.  It might be in the Tray, so click the ^ icon to check there too.

  • Ok, small update. The new Sims 4 folder DOES have a Mods folder. Don't know where it came from. It has all my mods in it, so I guess it just regenerated? I don't know. That's all I got for now.

It was a mods issue! I've never had a mod do that before, so I was completely stumped. Thank you for your help!! I've seen you around in multiple forums and all your advice, so thank you again for all you do to help people with this game!!

  • I am having the same issue but I do not have any mods. I have tried everything but cant seem to find a solution. Any ideas?
