Sims always sad.

So my sims wife just died.. from unseen circumstances.. where she may or may not of been locked in a room for the reasons of getting the black widow trophy.. anyway with the last wife after the trophy popped he is stuck in a very sad state with 'widower' moodlet stuck on, theres no timer and I've tried everything to remove it, even brought the happiness perk. I'm not using mods or cheats and not going to as im trophy hunting and both of those options immediately disable trophies.

Ideas anyone how to fix this?
