Sims can't grab a serving to eat

I've had it happen with caprese and garden salads now. I've never played with mods and it never happened before this month.

That's what I did (just stuck the whole plate in the dishwasher) and it fixes the can't eat problem for the moment, but it is a recurring bug in my game. The first time it happened was with the caprese salad when one of my active sims was a toddler. It didn't recur until today with the garden salad. It happened to a different sim in the same active family and they are now teens. Both times I got rid of all the food and sold the refrigerator. I also have a problem with that family where no one can complete a violin or piano song, which has never happened before. They just continue to compose it forever and the action never completes (even after 12 sim hours). I may have to do the cache delete thing since I already tried repairing the game twice (after each time it happened) and I'm still having problems.

I've finished the musical genius aspiration every generation for the previous six generations of my current family and the write song function stopped working this month with the 7th and 8th generations. They just never finish writing the song anymore. I tried replacing all my instruments, deleting all songs out of the inventory, having them try writing the different styles of songs etc. Sometimes the resume interaction works fine, sometimes not. It happens to me with book writing sometimes too where they were almost finished then the next day they start over. Book writing still works fine but nothing I've tried with song writing works. They just never finish the song. They get to the end of the circle where the finished notification should pop up and just keep writing. I had a full circle yesterday and let her go for 8 hours after the song should have been finished and she just never finished it with the notification message.

I have the same issue with any food that has more than one serving.
