Sim's lifespan not matching long duration

I've been recently experiencing this issue with all my sims where when I set the lifespan duration to long, they all show that there is 3 days until aging up. I read that the problem was MCCmd and removed it from my mods folder but the problem still persists. Also tried other solutions such as loading the game from main menu, and changing the duration in the worlds before loading into the household but that doesn't seem to fix my problem. My game play became so much shorter because of this so I had to disable sims aging but I would prefer playing with long duration... anyone else experiencing this problem and know what to do?

  • @strwbrri  Thanks for sharing that.  Since your MCCC setting should allow the default setting for the game, it suggests that you have another mod that affects aging.  if you know which mod might affect the life span, then you'll want to adjust the settings.  If you're not sure which one might affect aging, then the best thing to do is test the game with each mod separately until you find the culprit.  You'll want to delete that cache file each time you remove a mod and before opening the game to test.

Additionally, If you have saved the game after adding any mod back to the game, it is possible that your sim was saved with whatever age duration was applied by the mod; i.e. your sim was saved with the 3 day age up.  So you may need to test each mod in a new save each time you open the game while also deleting that cache file before opening the game.  This may also mean that the age duration will persist in your main save for the current active sims and you may need to play with aging turned off for those sims until you find the mod that is setting the weird short duration.  This process can be a little tedious but I think it will be worth the effort to find which mod is causing the problem.

  • @strwbrri   Hi!  That's really weird.  Please try these steps...

    1. Exit the game, if it's open
    2. Move your mods folder to the desktop  (a new one will be generated when you start the game again)

    3. Delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder (this cache file may carry some effects from mods; a new one will be generated when you start the game again)

    4. Open the game and start a new save (this is to protect your current save until we figure out the problem)

    5. After creating a sim or loading one from your library and placing them on a lot, double check game options to make sure the life span is set to long

    6. Check your new sim's age progression

Please come back and give an update if it's working properly after following these steps.

  • @JonaO703  Hello! Thank you for your reply

I have just followed your steps and it seems to be working just fine when I removed all the mods and cleared the cache but when I loaded my mods back into the game, the lifespan changes back to 3 days. Any solution for this?

@strwbrri   Okay.  It's good that the game is working as intended without any mods.  Now check your MCCC settings.  You will need to have access to a computer for these next steps.  So, either add a computer to your sim's lot or have them travel to a Library, many have computers available like in Willow Creek.

    1. Click on the computer and click the MCCC option

    2. Click MCCC settings and select Set Age Span Duration

    3. Click on Human and then click Long Lifespan.

4, Click the life stage that represents your sim: young adult or adult, etc.

It should look something like this...

This image shows the Young Adult setting from my game.  Note that it states a 0 value will use EA's default and for YA that is 88 days for long life span.

What is the value listed in your game?

  • @JonaO703 that's good to hear, hopefully I can add back my mods and have the issue resolved.

I added only the MCCC mod into my mods folder and followed the steps you listed. My values are exactly the same as yours.

  • @JonaO703 Thank you so much for your help! I'll definitely check each of my mods and CC to see what is causing this problem.

You mentioned the cache file. I just wanted to make sure, is it the localthumbcache.package which I have to delete every time I restart the game and delete the mod?

After finding the issued mod, and having it removed, will my saved game return back to normal? I will be sure check the mods using a new save file!

Thank you so much for your help once again! I'll let you know if any other issues occurs (hopefully not haha)

@strwbrri    You're welcome!  I do hope that you're able to figure out what's happening in your game.  Yes, by cache file I was referring to that localthumbcache file in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder.

I can't say for sure that your main save will return to normal.  I suspect that if you saved the game with the 3 day age up, then the sims in that save will be permanently altered.  However, if you identify the mod causing that short life span and either change the setting or remove the mod, then future sims should have the default setting going forward.

Please do come back and give an update on what worked or didn't work so that others can benefit from your experience.  Happy Simming! :-)

  • Hello @JonaO703

I'm back for an update! I found out it was an outdated mod that was causing the issue. I can now play without needing to disabled aging and with the correct duration! For my current household, I just uploaded them to the gallery and added them into a now save file.

Thank you once again for your help! I hope you have a wonderful day/night wherever you are 🙂)
