Sims placed into the game from my library are causing Last Exceptions

I had been playing the game offline when the HSY update came out.  I continued playing offline until the patch to the update fixed most of the issues.  I finally got up the nerve to go online and upd...

    Greetings Crin,

You're gonna love this.  Do you have a cup of coffee handy?  I'm going to save you some time in trying to figure all of this out, so go get one while I tell you what I found.

It started when I realized where my thread had been put.  Mods & CC.  Could it really be a mod?  Could it be some of my CC?  How could that be when I replaced them all, one at a time, to the extent that I was able to find that one outdated mod?

So I thought back to how this all started.

Because I made those sims so long ago, I was taking them to an earlier save well before the update.  I was loading them with no problem there, but as I had added mods since then, I was tweaking them then saving the household in CAS and exiting right from there to the main menu.  I would then choose the latest save file, which was made after the update, and would get that Last Exception notification as soon as I plunked them down into it.  I assumed (and we both know what assuming does), that it was because I was putting them into a world corrupted by that update and that was the reason for the LE.

So... instead of taking them to an earlier save, I chose one of the sims and loaded her into the latest save.  I was shocked when I didn't get the notification.  So... like with the mods, I started tweaking her.  First I added only that games jewelry and accessories instead of the CC jewelry I have.  That didn't cause an issue so I pressed on.  At what point in the process were things going wrong?  Next I went for the reward traits.  I usually start out my sims with few... okay... a LOT of the reward traits because usually by the time a sim earns them, they really don't need them any more.  I added only the ones I knew were from the game and not from any mods.  That didn't cause an issue either.  Then I went for the other traits.  The ones you can get through the MC Command Center's "Add Traits."  Again I chose only the ones I knew were from the game.  Again, no issues.  Then I added personality traits.  I had added a mod that gave me five slots instead of the usual three because I miss The Sims 3.  Nope no issue there either.  So what was causing that darned glitch?  Seeing that I was pretty much done tweaking her, I went back into the personality traits and changed one.

One mod that I had installed a couple of years ago was one by Vicky Sims/Chingyu that added a whole lotta traits to the game.  100 to be exact, or so they claim.  Just like my game packs, just because I have a lot, doesn't mean I use them all.  I use about 4 or 5 of all of those traits on offer.  The one I added through MCCC Cas was "Open Minded."  The second I closed the window... there it was.  The Last Exception.  Then I thought of all of the sims that had that same trait.  I use that on all of the sims that need to have that extra nudge towards being inspired.

But those sims are already in the game.  Why wasn't I always getting an LE because of them?  Maybe I had to click on them?  Play them?  Maybe that's when it shows up?

I went to a writer sim that I knew had that same trait.  Yep.  As soon as I selected him and the loading screen was done... a Last Exception.  I also use "Relaxed" for the sims who need help with being focused.  So I went to a sim who was a programmer.  I knew he had the "Relaxed" trait from that same mod.  Nope.  It didn't have an issue.  I went to a couple who had the "Loyal" trait from the same mod.  No problems with them either.

My conclusion to this whole fiasco.  The game doesn't see the mod itself as a problem which is why I didn't find it when I went searching for bad and/or outdated mods.  It isn't a problem with the whole mod.  Just that one part of that mod.  Now, I'm not going to test them all, that would take way too much time but at least I figured it out on my end.  I actually was feeling pretty proud of myself until I realized that I should have probably researched ALL the avenues before I got so... well... bitchy.

So there you have it.  Maybe this will be of help if this happens to anyone else.  I'll just have to fix the problem when I select a sim with that "Open Minded" trait when I play them.  There are other ways to get my sims inspired.

Have a great day.  I'm sorry for taking up so much of your time, but hopefully you got to enjoy a cup of coffee while you read my adventure into being a mod detective.
