Sims won't fulfill action of introducing themselves to stray animals

I've found that the stray animals tend to have a whole invisible queue that doesn't cancel when you try to interact with them, so you have to wait until they finish and hope your interaction doesn't time out. On the computer, I usually turn cheats on then right click on and reset the stray - that clears their queue, so my Sim can talk to them. Not sure if you can/want to do the console equivalent.
