Sims won't stop reading? (And other bugs since Dec. 5th update)

Hi there! I'm currently dealing with a super frustrating issue where my game is super buggy, and it started when the December 5th update came out. Originally I was having the issue where my sims would have to sit between actions (for instance I'd tell her to go potty train her toddler and she'd have to walk to a chair, sit, get up, then she'd go complete the action) or the game would have them do the same actions over and over, like watching TV, watching other Sims, or they'd just stand there for long periods of time before doing something. After doing a lot of reading I discovered that this was probably due to my Mods/CC not being compatible with the update, so I went ahead and followed various instructions to try to figure things out.

Being as though I do play with mods and CC, I went ahead and removed the script mods since I knew they could be causing the issue. When a new update came out for the two I use I then installed the new update, and applied them again. Yet still, my game is extremely buggy. So, I decided to test the other mods I use and started using the 50/50 method, but still my game is bugged.

After no solution was found, I went ahead and made a new household to try to test it on a clean slate. Each time I tested something, I made sure not to save the game. Each time I start it up, my sim will go inside and read over and over again. In fact, the sim won't even finish a full book, instead she'll grab one book, start reading it, put it back, then grab another book, start reading it, put it back, and that will continue 5 or so times.

If anyone has any recommendations on what I should do, please let me know! I'm getting extremely frustrated, and I'm not a tech savvy person what so ever so I'm lost.

So far I've tried... (To no avail)

- Removing script mods (and reapplying them once new updates came out)

- Uninstalling & reinstalling the game (Through Steam)

- Validating the files (Steam version of Origin's repair option)

- Splitting my mods and doing the 50/50 method
- Deleting localthumbcache files & other cache files

- Removed ALL mods (the entire mods folder) and it still bugged

The bugs I've seen so far...

- Sim won't stop reading (refer to above)

- Sim will sit before completing actions

- Sim will take a long time to begin an action, or will stand for long periods of time

Any and all help is appreciated, just keep in mind I'm not a computer person so I might get a little confused! I'm wondering if these bugs are simply from the Dec 5th update and have nothing to do with my mods.

If it helps at all, I also play on a Nitro 5 gaming laptop.

Hi @Vampiiriic Please test on a clean folder: Exit Sims 4 then drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop. Launch Sims 4 and reset your Options. Now start a new save and see how that is. If it works, exit, copy your save file from the desktop into the new folder, and test that.

Hi there! I went ahead and moved the whole Sims 4 folder to my desktop then relaunched. It basically started up like I never played the game before (all my saves weren't there etc.) which I assume is normal. I then made a new save as you said, and the first thing the sim did was go and read over and over again. So I'm afraid this didn't work. ☹️

@Vampiiriic Yes, that's normal! Once you know your game is working "clean" you can put all the contents of the old folders back in the new ones.

Let's try one more thing for the reading obsession: a Game Repair. If that doesn't help, I'm happy to suggest mods that will stop the reading. But also, if it still doesn't stop, keep a copy of that save and make a bug report.

I'm afraid I tried repairing the game as well! When I try to do it through Origin/EA the option to repair the game doesn't even appear, and I assume that's because I downloaded it via Steam. So, I went ahead and did the Steam equivalent of a repair, but still that didn't work.
I'll gladly take a look at those mods though! The only problem is there's other bugs besides just the reading: my sims are sometimes unresponsive to commands, will sit before completing an action, or will stand for long periods of time not doing anything.

@Vampiiriic I'd suggest starting with Chingyu's Less Obsession. I think it includes a file for less reading. It might be enough for your bug there.

@luthienrising I'll be sure to download that! Do you have any idea on how I can get the other bugs to go away? (The sitting before actions, slow reaction time, etc.)?

@Vampiiriic Some of those are a lot trickier because they can have so many causes. It could be an outdated mod that's trying to do something but failing, so a mod-free test can help narrow that down. It could be an overstuffed household/lot combined with your computer specs. If you replicate it in a new save in premade household after deleting caches and removing the Mods folder and doing a Game Repair, it could be something to take to Bug Reports, but this sort of issue can be very hard to replicate.

Sadly still having issues, and even after adding the obsessions mod my Sim in any new save will read over and over again. I'm starting to think it's something to do with the update and not my game, but either way I'm super upset. Ever since I moved the whole Sims 4 folder to the desktop it's actually gotten way worse- I moved it, started the game like you said, then when I saw that didn't help at all I removed that new Sims 4 folder and put the old one back where it came from. Now my Sims are constantly sitting etc. ☹️ I'll try to post something in bug reports, but my game is basically impossible to play without getting insanely frustrated.

@Vampiiriic It's not something that's been widely reported, like showering obsessions were. Have you done a Game Repair or reinstallation of the game? (Sorry, losing track of many people this week!)

I am also having similar problems.
-just standing there.
-my sim washed their hands for 5 in-game hours before I even noticed.
- Will take forever to plant and move on to the next plant.
-they have an action in their taskbar but will just stand there until I reset them.
And it's gotten worse now all they do is stand there!! Even if they have work or school they won't automatically leave like they are supposed to.
I have deleted mods and even pulled up another save. BUT every save has a problem! Even new saves without mods.
