skill bar not appearing

I've been playing with one family on my sims file for a while now and everything was running smoothly. I was trying to level up one of my sims guitar skill but the bar doesn't show up above her head and on the skills tab there's no progress being made, nor is the skill highlighted to show its being worked on. I also tried making her practice piano, painting and a few other skills but none are working. I tried using another sim in my household and her skills are progressing and functioning as usual. I've tried removing and adding her to the household, resetting her (shift right click>reset sim), repairing my game and I'm not too sure why this has happened or whats caused it. I have quite a few mods installed but I don't think they're the problem as I've read on other forums about people having this problem without mods but there aren't any solutions. Also if it helps my sim has the Musical genius aspiration and I'm using all of the packs, kits etc.

    @R43_1204 Unfortunately, the only way to rule out mods being the cause is to test it. Here's how: Exit Sims 4 then drag your Mods folder to your desktop. Then delete the file called localthumbcache from Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. If you think you might accidentally forget to exit without saving after testing, copy your Saves folder to your desktop too, to back it up. Now open Sims 4 and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, you can start the process of figuring out what from your Mods folder was causing it.
