Struggling with CC. Please Help

I use Curse Forge as a mod manager and downloader, but it puts the mods on a Sims 4 file that is connected to my OneDrive. I am trying to un-sync my OneDrive so i am not constantly low on storage, but through OneDrive seems to be the only way my mods will actually work and appear in game. I reinstalled the Sims 4 so that it would be on an external hard drive to clear up more space from my laptop and the game works just fine when the external is plugged in, but when trying to copy the mod files to the Sims 4 files on the external, the mods will no longer work or appear in my game.

I do not know what to do. My laptop will not let me un-sync the documents folder that is connected to my one drive and has everything in it, Curse Forge does not seem to change its download destination even though I have it in my settings to go to the external, and any mods in the externals mod folder does not work or appear in game.

Other sources have said that I may need to create a different pathway or link to change the destination of things, but reviews for this method seem to result in peoples laptops and games becoming confused and breaking.
