The Sims 4 Parenthood - buggy?

I'm not sure if it's the parenthood pack or if it's a problem with the base game but I can't seem to get my sim to parent and all the nanny does is watch tv, and cook meals. The kids regularly go hungry, pass out with exhaustion, and soil themselves while both my sim and the nanny stand around - that's if the nanny isn't parked in front of the tv or in the kitchen. Meanwhile, since I have to repeat the commands over and over it can take half of a sim day to get her to just go get one of her kids. 

Is any one else having an AWFUL experience or had one?
