I'm still trying to find out how this is fixed and I've done everything except uninstall.
@ryguy10189 If this occurs for you in a new user folder (drag The Sims 4 out of Documents > Electronic Arts to your desktop, or rename it), in a new save or a previous save put back in your new Saves folder, head to this Bug Report: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Unable-to-select-traits-in-CAS/m-p/13907533#M284860

Not quite sure who I am answering now, I'm meaning to just share a post regarding the general subject.
I recently got the invisible trait icons in cas, but found that it happens only when creating a new household from the world view button (bottom right). When I take an already existing household to CAS, the traits are showing fine. So what I do is simply to create the first sim of the household with random traits, save and move in. Then, when opening that household in CAS to edit and add more household members, it all works fine.
Not sure this will work for all though.
I do have mods, but not MCCC or anything traits related.
