Unplayed sims randomly move into empty lots and merge with other unplayed sims

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? Français
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 17.0
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Cottage Living Snowy Escape Discover University Island Living Get Famous Seasons Cats and Dogs City Living Get Together Get to Work Get Famous Outdoor Retreat Parenthood Dine Out Tiny Living Greenhouse haven Little Campers Country Kitchen
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? check if unplayed sims families moved into a previously empty lot. check if unplayed families started merging for no reason
What happens when the bug occurs? Unplayed sims randomly move out of their homes and into different empty lots sometimes (most of the time) with other unplayed sims merging their families even though I have moving out and moving in off in neighbourhood stories for example the Gothik family whom I've never played in that save moved into a San Myshuno apartment with a random unplayed sim. A random unplayed sim moved into their house as well and it no longer has any furniture. or the mayor from henford on bagley moved in a lot in windenburg with another unplayed sim. I can't find it anymore but I also always had the fill empty homes option unchecked. All empty lots that have a house built are now filled by random unplayed sims
What do you expect to see? I'd expect sims to not move out of their homes into other homes and also that they not merge with other unplayed sims for no reason when I have moving in/moving out unchecked
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

    Hi there

    Has the problem been resolved?
I have a sentence in your post that concerns me so I confirm it.
    You write,
"I can't find it anymore but I also always had the fill empty homes option unchecked."
Is this referring to the setting under Options > Game Options > Gameplay?
    See the following image.

Now that Neighborhood Stories has been introduced, the "fill empty homes option" in the red box has been removed.
Instead, the Neighborhood Stories system now determines what happens to NPCs, including when they move.
Scroll down in gameplay and you will see a check box to turn off the NS system.
If you uncheck this box and turn off NS, the NPCs will no longer move.
You can also make individual settings, such as turning off only move in and move out, while leaving the NS system on.
Or is it that this NS system is not working correctly?

I know that they changed it to neighbourood stories and I also always turn off neighbourood stories except for the dying option sometimes so the sims aren't supposed to be able to move in or out on their own (and certainly not merge with other sims that didn't live on the lot either)

So yeah neighbourhood stories isn't working correctly is what I'm saying.

    Hi there

Sorry hear that, and thank you for updating your status.
So, you think that your NS system doesn't work correctly.
It appears that households are being merged to create new households, which cannot happen in the NS system.

As you can see in the image below, there is no integration of households built into the NS system.
If you are using MCCC or any mod that can manipulate the household status, you may want to check your settings or check for mod updates regarding household merging.
I don't know if there are any mods that interfere with the NS system, as I don't use any mods, but I feel that you should unplug the mods and check to see if the NS system is working properly.
I hope you can find the cause of the problem.

  • it might have been an update but i had to go into my stories in manage households, and moving in and out was turned on for WHATEVER REASON. ALL my families are mixed and muddled and i hate it so much
