As you have seen, there is a high probability that your issue is related to an outdated or broken mod. You need to find this now. If you know when the problem first occurred and what you added to your game at that time, you can start with these items. Otherwise you might try the 50/50 search to find the culprit.
As always make a backup of your game data before you start tweaking your game to have a fallback option if you don't like the result.
A 50/50 search refers to a method of testing your mod folder by eliminating mods as the culprit via splitting them in half and moving one half to a safe place, while leaving the other still in the game.
- First you separate the mods up and move one group to your safe folder, make sure to delete localthumbcache.package, then launch the game.
- If the game works without the separated mods, you know you need to do the same thing with those in turn.
- If the game doesn't work you know that that you need to half the mods in this folder and place the half you remove in another folder
If you have a lot of mods, this idea can seem very daunting, however, it's certainly the fastest way to rule out mods. Taking out mods at random, unless you're very lucky, will take you a lot longer.
To possibly shorten it somewhat it is worth testing with only CC first in order to see if you can rule that out and only 50/50 your mods.
