I updated the game and now whenever I try to play with a household clicking on it sends me back to the loading screen

So that I can give you the right advice,
- Does this happen in ALL households or only one you previously played?
- Do you have an empty Mods folder, or do you use mods?
All of them and I use mods
The August 2025 patch (1.117) broke many, many script mods, with this being the symptom, and these are still the ones most likely to be your problem. Use the Previously Broken mods and CC for many (not all!) mods that have no updates. Use “Updated” in the Broken/Updated Mods list for patch 1.117 as a second starting point, but note many were updated for patch 1.118 and/or are not yet cleared in the current list (for links, see Mod & CC Issues: START HERE).
