Okay, I'm answering my own question (LOL) in case anyone else is having the same problem and comes across this post. I was confused by Andrew's website which still has old versions on it, as well as the new, so I just replaced the pose player with the version nearest the top, which was the current version, and now everything works just fine.
Well, I'm off to download pose packs now. Yippeee! :)
(I have a feeling I'll never actually play The Sims again; I'll just spend all my time doing poses and screenshots, haha.)
