@2paula22 So, regarding the Sim Count, that number represents the amount of sims you can keep in "My Households". These households are prevented from being culled / deleted by the game. In my mod free save, I have one household with 7 sims in the "My Households" tab. So my Sim Count is 7 / 80 which means I could have 73 more sims in "My Households". Any time you play or edit a household in CAS, they get moved to that tab. You don't have to delete them to remove them from the tab. You can click on the family and then click the "Move Into Other Households" button.
Basically, those sims become like any other NPC in the game. You could still delete them if you want. I'm just making sure you know there's another option.
Now, about your problem lot ... If I'm reading correctly, it sounds like you are going to the lot in live mode then trying to edit but if you have a family living there, you won't be able to go into build mode with a sim from another household. Since you mentioned "mother, baby and babysitter were standing outside", I guessed you must have a household living there.
Please try to go to build mode from the map. When you choose Load Game from the main menu and select a save to play, it will show you the map first. If you're in live mode playing a sim, then you would click the Manage Worlds button, then choose the option so "Save and Go to Manage Worlds" or "Just Go to Manage Worlds".
The Manage Worlds button is in the upper right corner of the game window.
When the map loads, click on your problem lot and then click the Build button.
Does this allow you to get into build mode and make changes to the lot?
Gosh thanks for sticking with me on this!! I sure appreciate it! I must be doing something wrong or maybe there is just a glitch with that lot? I went to the San Sequoia world. Clicked on it. Then clicked on the problem lot. It does give me the choice to "build". However when I click on that, it quickly shows the "scale/squares" (don't know what they are called) but they quickly leave. I have deleted/bulldozed lots before and it is usually easy.
Apparently the family that I moved there is still there although it never shows them. Scroll over the bed and it shows designated side etc. When I sent a Sim from another lot to visit, is when the mother, baby & babysitter were out front but I couldn't go inside house. Could interact with them tho. I am never shown the family icons/faces at bottom left to select one to have them do things.
This is getting frustrating! Guess I just can't play on the lot? Maybe you can figure out what I am doing wrong? BTW the name of the house on the lot is: "Modern Townhouse" by simmarysims.
A thought....should I try to just replace lot with something else from Gallery? Or could I sell it somehow?? Keep in mind it is considered a rental.
If we ever get this fixed I have another lot in another world that has an issue! I just don't play with it. There are plenty of lots etc. to play with!!! LOL I have all the worlds.
Thank again!

@2paula22 I think I've figured out what is happening. First, let me say that it is not a problem with the lot created by simmarysims. I know you were worried about causing trouble for them. The problem causing the glitch is with placing a Residential lot on an existing Rental lot.
I found an existing bug report that I believe matches the issue you are having.
Please click "me too" on the first post and, if you want to, reply and share any details you think are relevant.
The reason I believe this is your issue is based on my testing. I found the Modern Townhouse lot and placed it on the Anchorpoint Abode Rental lot in San Sequoia based on the Gallery photos. The first thing I noticed was that the game didn't prompt me to change the lot type, although the type displayed as Residntial after placing it. When I first placed the family, I had no problems while I was playing them. However, I noticed some of the issues you've mentioned after I deleted the family or if I exited the game and loaded again. I didn't see the warning error you first reported but I did have problems with getting into build mode and had the goofy music when clicking the build button. Also, I was not able to play the family there.
To make sure it wasn't a problem with that specific lot, I tested this in Tartosa on the Villa Vigna Rental lot. I tried various lot types.
When I attempted to place any Residential lots, including Haunted House Residential, I had the same issues. It didn't prompt to change the lot type and the lot was basically broken.
When I attempted to place public lots (lounge, nightclub, etc.) I immediately got the prompt to change the lot type.
Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to fix the lot once it's broken. The only options I can think of are:
- Try to recover a save from before you placed the lot on the Rental lot. If you're able to do this, and you still want to place that Modern Townhouse lot in San Sequoia. First go into build mode for the Rental lot and change it to Residential. After that you will be able to place the lot without any problems. Click the spoiler below for instructions on how to recover a save.SpoilerTo recover a save, click on the Load button and click the save you want. Then click the Recover Save icon and choose a save point from the list that pops up.
- Continue playing that save knowing that you won't be able to use the broken lot.
- Save all the households you want to keep playing and add them to a new game save which will give you a fresh start. Just remember not to place Residential lots on existing Rental lots before changing their lot types to Residential first.
I wish I had better news for you. Hopefully it helps to know that you're not crazy, it's not just you? Other people have had the same problems. Whatever the case, I wish you good luck and happy simming!
