    This issue now seems to be fixed in the 1.68.154.1220 November 2020 patch.

I doubt it. The Macs that don't support Metal are 2011 and earlier models. Legacy Edition was introduced for non-Metal Macs in November 2019, you're a long way off having an 8 year old machine yet.

Yep, I get the annoyance at having paid for the game and it's not working. It happened so often in the TS3 days and these AMD GPUs really seem to be problematic at the moment. Not really sure what else EA can say? They've confirmed they are looking into it.

alright well thank you, you def eased my mind a little with the age of my machine. 

i guess seeing snowy escape on Twitter sent me off my rocker haha
