I am having trouble creating a symbolic link

Okay, so now that I have redownloaded the sims 4 onto my internal hard drive, I am trying to once again create a symbolic link so that my electronic arts folder is still in my external hard drive. I've done this multiple times before no issue, but now it isn't working. When I do the first command in terminal- it just creates a copy in my external hard drive instead of moving it. I'm thinking I must have done something wrong when trying to reverse the symbolic link last time, and I have no idea how to fix it.

The mv command would not copy a file/folder, it would move it. cp is the copy command. Creating a symlink is not as easy as simply moving files around different locations which is why I strongly suggest that unless you're comfortable in Terminal, it isn't the solution for everyone.

If you've done it multiple times before then the issue will be in a command you have entered this last time. I wrote a guide here with full instructions https://bluebellflora.com/saving-your-sims-4-folder-to-an-external-drive/
