Re: Unable to start: The Sims 4 is already running - Mac only
I wanted to check whether I could use The Sims 4 again, as I have been unable to play for several months due to a launch error.
Previously, the game stopped launching entirely via the EA App. Clicking Play would either do nothing or the app would claim the game was already running when it clearly was not. I was never able to resolve this and stopped trying.
I am still unable to play, but I am now getting a different error. When attempting to launch The Sims 4, I receive the following message:
“The Sims™ 4 is already running.” Error code: [ed35eDea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51]
The game does not open at all, and no Sims-related processes remain active.
My system is: macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6
MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017)
Processor 1.8 GIz Dual-Core Intel Core iS
Memory 8GB 1600 Mriz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB
Fixes already attempted, none of which worked: restarted the Mac multiple times, force-quit all EA and Sims processes in Activity Monitor, repaired the game in the EA App, fully uninstalled and reinstalled The Sims 4, fully uninstalled and reinstalled the EA App, deleted all Sims and EA-related files including Documents/Electronic Arts and all EA/Sims cache, logs, and preference files in the Library folders, and performed a completely clean reinstall after deleting everything.
The game does not launch far enough to recreate a Sims 4 folder, so this is not related to mods, saves, or corrupted user files. I don’t use mods or cc.
I’m honestly at my wits end with this game. At this point I’ve been unable to access a game and content I own for over 6 months and I feel like I’ve been robbed. I would like to know whether this error is a known issue on macOS Monterey, and if there is a confirmed fix or official acknowledgement of the problem.
