Hi @smwilliams
Have you tried repairing the game in origin? It verifies all the files and should fix whatever issue is occurring for you.
When you say you uninstalled the game - did you just uninstall it from origin? Or did you uninstall origin all together? To do this go to @Bluebellflora website here: https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/
I think if you uninstall it from your mac and ensure that you delete all associate files, and then re-download origin and Sims and this should give you a clean slate (but all your saves and game progress won't be lost!).
There could be some malware on your mac that might be the issue. I'd recommend downloading Malwarebytes - it's completely free. I use it myself so if you're worried about anything to do with running the software I can assure you it just identifies corrupt files for you. This link will take you to the download page: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download
If it Sims isn't the problem then it could be an issue with your MacBook. This issue has occurred for me and I found I could only play while charging my mac. Eventually I had to get my battery replaced and that sorted it for me.
