[MAC] Sims 4 won't quit or force quit

Question

Recently every time I try to quit sims 4 on my mac the screen turns black and I can switch to other windows but sims just wont leave. I have tried force quitting but nothing happens and I cant open it again. The only way to get rid of it is to hold down the power button but I don't want to do that because it can be bad for my computer.

Is there anything I can do to quit the game or stop this happening again?
