Re: 🛠️ Creating a symlink in macOS to store the Sims 4 folder on an external drive

I just got a new hard drive for my Mac and uninstalled the game but when I went to install mods they wouldn't show up when I opened the game. I installed the Sims 4 and deleted all of the files regarding the previous copy of the Sims to see if it would move all the files to the hard drive (where it was supposed to download originally) but the folder for the Sims 4 never re-appeared. So now I have no The Sims 4 folder meaning I have no mods folder to put the cc I want if anyone has any idea on how to help me install the cc without there being a mods folder or on how to make a whole new Sims 4 folder that would be great.

The game installation via Origin is completely separate to where the Sims 4 folder with your saves etc. is stored. If you want to store the Sims 4 folder on the external drive you can only do so by creating a symlink. See the opening post on page 1 of this thread for further explanation.

@Bluebellflora Thanks for the response! I followed the instructions on making the symlink and everything looks the same as yours! The only issue is that there is still no The sims 4 folder. I cant install any mods to my game with no folder right? Is there any way to get it back? I deleted it previously because it wasn't working on my hard drive. Thanks!

What do you mean there is no folder. If you've successfully created the symlink, and it looks like my setup in the screenshots, then you have an Electronic Arts/Sims 4 folder. You will have had the Electronic Arts/Sims 4 folder, whichever one you chose to create the symlink for, when you moved it and set up the symlink......
