We have just released a patch to address this issue, please find the patch notes below.

Hello Simmers,
We have a small but important update to address some critical issues for macOS players. Thank you for your reports and assistance in tracking down, and drawing awareness to these important issues.

  • Players can once again launch The Sims 4 in their language preference when their choice is different from the Origin language options.
  • Downloaded Packs are now correctly moved to their new location. Origin will no longer insist on reinstalling the packs. This means players won’t end up with two copies.
  • A few stability improvements were made.


Additional Information:
If one of the workarounds from AnswersHQ was applied to get the game going last week, players don’t have to undo it. No additional action is necessary.

    All - with the release that @EA_Mai mentions above none of the workarounds I've described should be needed any longer. To benefit, you MUST download the update. If you've applied the workaround(s) then you do not need to undo them. You can now properly set the Origin client to your preferred language even if the language is not supported by The Sims 4 (e.g. French (Canada)). Likewise languages supported by The Sims 4 and NOT supported by the Origin client will now work correctly when set through the GUI (you don't need to edit your PLIST to make Czech or Simplified Chinese work!).

    Please let us know if you see anything that contradicts the above.

    Hi, 
    Sorry in advance, my English isn't perfect and I don't know if I'll be able to explain things correctly. 

    Long story short - I've read, I think, everything from this thread, tried everything that I could find here, and my game STILL doesn't work. 
    I've reinstalled origin, than the game, than removed all the files (origin&sims) and reinstalled everything again (by "all the files" I mean files I knew for sure are origin/sims connected, because I'm no computer wiz, I'm a basic blonde chic, so after reinstalling the game, my saves files and basically everything from the "The Sims 4" folder went back as If I've never deleted it). 
    Also, I have super slow internet so downloading the game takes about 5 hours. Yes, I'm up since yesterday, reading forum and trying to figure this out 🙂 


    I'm using mods in the game, but atfer second reinstalling I've deleted them completely from the game and my computer. Nothing fancy, very basic mods that all moders are using. But still - with or without them, game doesn't work. If the mods are in the folder, my game ALMOST launches and then crashes. Without mods I immediately see the screen with error at sturt up:

    I've also checked the plist files (I have two). I THINK they are correct. My languages matches within files and with the language in Origin (Polish, btw). 
    The only weird thing about them is that one of them is placed in different folder than the second one. I don't know how to explain it, so I'm attaching screenshots so you can see what I mean. 

    The path for 1 screenshot is:
    Macintosh HD -> Biblioteki -> Application Support -> Origin -> ClientInfo.plist

    In this "Clientinfo.plist" there is no "string" area that I could change. Only <key>IsBeta</key>.

    The path for 2 screenshot is:
    Users -> Lenika -> Library -> Application Support -> Origin ->Installer Data -> Sims4_Locale.plist and sims4_setLocale.log.

    In the plist and log files I have the same language (pl_PL)

    So yeah, please, PLEASE, help me fix this. I just want to be a mermaid and since yesterday I can't ☹️

    Hello. Where can I download this patch ?

    I am still not able to open my game.

    I tried everything stated on this topic. Trying changing system language, origin and game language, repair the game, reinstalling origin etc.

    I dont have any .plist file on my Library, except for one file - ClientInfo.plist which doest have the part of the code which I am supposed to change for a fix. That is what is on my file:

    Sorry, but this whole thing is just ridiculous, i didn't have this problem before the 14.04 update, and now i can't open the game

    @MaxisJoe Hello, I had the same problem as many here on 09.04.2020.First of all I changed the origin language to my sims 4 play language ( Russian) and it worked til today. Now the newest update was installed and I can't play sims 4 also the ´Unable to start:

    Initialization error at start up.

    appears again and I tried to switch any languages ( English American, German, Russian, espanol espana) it doesn't work and I can't play sims 4 :c

    As I unterstand, the patch to solve the problem was already released automatically ? but whats the problem with my sims now.

    Thanks a lot for your reports!

    Would you please try the following troubleshooting steps?:

    1. Go to Documents > Electronic Arts and search for The Sims 4 game folder. The name could be different depending on your language, for example, for Spanish it will be 'Los Sims 4'.
    2. Move this folder to your desktop or another location. These are your user files and it's important you keep them safe as your saves and content is stored here. We are moving it to the desktop to force the game to do a clean start, but make sure not to lose this folder as we will need it to restore your saves and Sims later!
      If you have more than one 'The Sims 4' folder as you installed the game in different languages, move them all, we will find the correct one later 🙂
    3. Open Origin. Right click on The Sims 4 and select the 'Repair' option.
    4. Wait until the repair process finishes, then try to launch the game again.

    Is the game working now?

    If not, then please:

    1. Go to Users > Applications
    2. Right click on The Sims 4 and select 'Open contents'
    3. Navigate inside Contents
    4. Open the file default.ini. See where it says gameversion? What number do you see there?

    I've already tried to repair the game after move the sims 4 game folder, but it doesn't work. ☹️ 

    This is my gameversion number: "gameversion = 1.62.69.1220"

    the first option (moved the sims 4 folder to desktop and tried to repair) didn't work

    my game version is��� 1.62.69.1220

    @didyoucrydidyou and @greyhusky95 - What language have you set for the game in the Origin client? Go to "My Library", Ctrl-click (or right-click) on The Sims 4, select Game Properties,a nd select the Advanced tab. What language is set here?

    Try to select a different language. Let Origin check the install (you might notice it downloading a file or two as well). Then go back to that screen and re-select the language you prefer (and again - can you both tell me what that language is?). Let Origin check the install again and (hopefully) download another file or two.

    Does The Sims 4 now launch for you?

    @MaxisJoe hello, so my origin client has russian as language and sims gameplay has also Russian ( I have only 3 option in the gameplay) I tried to change the client to English American, German , espanol Spain and then re-select the language , than origin automatically reset - but I still can't open the sims 4. maybe it useful to know, that last week my client was in German and I only switched the client to Russian to make it work again and it did BUT since today even this doesn't work.

    @MaxisJoe I think it's not a problem of language. I select italian language both in the origin client and in The Sims 4. I also tried to select english US but it doesn't work anyway.

    I've never had this problem before putting the mod in the mod folders. I cancelled the mod from the folder but the problem still remains.

    @MaxisJoe Additionally, can anyone that has applied the update release yesterday (April 14) and is still seeing this error run these commands for me (note that this will NOT work if you have installed The Sims 4 into a non-default location):

    1. Open the Terminal program (it is in your Utilities folder inside your Applications folder)
    2. Type this (be sure to hit the Return key at the end of each line; it will be the easiest for you if you copy/paste each line, one at a time, into the Terminal program):
      cd ~/Applications/
find The\ Sims\ 4.app/ -name "*.zsh"
    3. Copy all the text you get as a result and paste it in a response here

    No result comes when I type this on Terminal. Please see picture attached (maybe I did something wrong ?!)

    @didyoucrydidyou Thanks for trying.

    Can you verify that after to set The Sims 4 language to Rusian that the PLIST files got properly updated? You can check this by:

    1. Pull down the Finder's "Go" menu and select "Library" (I'm sorry, I don't know the Russian words for this so am using English). If you do not see "Library" hold down your Option key while the menu is pulled down.
    2. Now navigate to Applications Support -> Origin -> Installer Data
    3. Open any PLIST files you find with TextEdit and verify that every "Locale" line is followed by "<key>ru_RU</key>"

    Can you also see my immediately previous post? I'd like to see the results of that Terminal command.

    @MaxisJoe before doing it - is it ok that my sims 4 folder is on the desktop (Mai proposed it in post before as option to try fix this problem) ? or is it irrelevant ?
