Please try this:
- Right click on the Sims 4 in your Applications folder and select Show Package Contents
- Navigate to Contents > Frameworks
- Drag the EAWebKit.so file to the Trash
- Open Origin, right click on the game in your Games Library and select Repair Game
This will hopefully fix it as the file is replaced with a newer version in the repair.

@Bluebellflora I'm not Caracheer but just tried removing he EAWebKit.so file and repairing the game as suggested. Restarted game, opened gallery and it still crashed.
Thank you for trying though.

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciated 🙂 what is the date modified for the EAWebKit file? - LemonPosset6 years agoSeasoned Rookie
The created, modified and last opened dates are all the same - 13 Sep 2019 at 17:44 on the EAWebKit.so
[The previous version was dated 2 August, so it did update].

Thanks, that’s what I have too. Could you provide your Mac specs in full (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS version, model and year). Any antivirus running or ad/content blocker? Proxies, firewalls? - LemonPosset6 years agoSeasoned Rookie
MacOS Mojave 10.14.6
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
Processor 3.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon R9 M395 2 GB
No antivirus or ad / content blocker and normal network set up (not using a proxy).
No problems running the game. The gallery started intermittently crashing a few months ago (usually starting working again when I repaired the game). It's been crashing every time I open it since the last game update.
HTH! And thank you for your time.

Thanks 🙂
If you create a new user account on your Mac and play in that account does it still happen?
You could also try starting up in safe mode - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262 - LemonPosset6 years agoSeasoned Rookie
@Bluebellflora Just wanted to say thank you for the suggestions, I will give them a go when I have time which probably won't be for a few days. Thanks!
Also off topic, but your website is awesome! Such a great resource for mac sims 4 users. May have lost a few hours reading it. Thank you!

@Bluebellflora Just to update this to say I tried starting the game in safe mode and got the following error message when I tried to start Sims 4:
Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum specifications and that the latest video drivers are installed.
Obviously I don't usually get that message when I start the game. Tried going into the game again once I'd rebooted in normal mode (in case the safe boot had cleared anything out) - gallery still crashing the game so no change.
Setting up a new user to play will take some faffing around as I have the game installed in username / Applications rather than the top level applications folder. I'll update again when I get a chance to try this.
- @LemonPosset
Thanks for the update. You should be able to move the app to the shared Applications folder and then tell Origin the new location in Origin settings. It is a faff I agree. It used to install to shared locations but the default is now the user’s Applications. Let me know how you get on 🙂 - LemonPosset6 years agoSeasoned Rookie
An update. In order to change the settings in Origin I had to make my mac account an administrator (otherwise it complained that the Applications folder was read only and said I couldn't change the settings to point there).
Having changed my mac account, I thought I would try re-entering the game before actually moving the sims 4 app. I was able to open the gallery without the game crashing though only tried once.
I then moved the sims 4 game file to top level Applications folder, went onto a new (admin) user and ran Origin and Sims 4. Gallery opened ok without crashing. Again I only tried it once or twice.
I then put Sims 4 app back into username / Applications, changed Origins settings and ran again through my account (which is still an admin). I'm now having intermittent crashing (twice out of four attempts) but it isn't instant as it was before (I'm getting to browse the gallery a bit before it crashes and sometimes it is not crashing).
- @LemonPosset
That's really informative, thank you! So after all that moving around it's working in your user account Applications folder again, where it was originally? Just want to clarify because I'll test it tomorrow on my iMac which also has it installed there. - LemonPosset6 years agoSeasoned Rookie
@Bluebellflora yes that’s right it’s back in my user account application folder again. Only difference is that my user account is set up as an administrator now which it wasn't before.
- @Bluebellflora I can't FIND The Sims 4 in my Applications folder. I can see it in my Launchpad, but my Search function can't find the app. I tried to do this today and it's like it's nowhere to be found. Any ideas as to where it might be hiding on a 2015 MacBook Pro? I can see The Sims 3 and Origin, just no The Sims 4. :-(
- @MamaKatz_cck
It may be installed in your user Applications folder, not the system one. Look in Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ [your user account] ▸ Applications - @Bluebellflora Yep, you were right, of course!!
- @Bluebellflora It seems to have worked—at least for attempt #1!!!

Hello, this is my first post on here so I'm sorry for the inconvenience if I'm not doing this right? There is no comment box on the bottom of the page so I apologize for using the reply button.
But I'm also having such bad issues with the game crashing once getting into the gallery. My game seemed to have been so messed up because of the update before this most recent one. It has not been the same since then. I have both taken out the webkit file and repaired the game multiple times, still does nothing. I even completely wiped out the game and then re-downloaded it, still having issues. I used to have cc in my game but it kept corrupting the files even though they are all updated. Sometimes I wouldn't have a problem with the cc during one run, then next time I play it crashes in the gallery. No idea why that would even happen when the cc was cleared last play. I've never had that issue before. It's still doing this while having no cc.
I'm at a loss here because I feel like I cannot play this game any longer, as I use the gallery a lot. I have no idea how to make it work like how it used to. - @natsubreeze
Is your Mac user account an Administrator account? Could you set up another admin account on your Mac, load a new game in that account and see if you can access the gallery? - sakusakuranbo6 years agoRising Novice
Hi, apologies for this late response. Yes, my account is the administrator. I did what you said and it did indeed load the gallery without any problems. I did not try to load it up with cc on that account, however. My second issue is now with the game itself and how it keeps corrupting my cc. It will crash at the gallery even with cc that it previously had cleared as fine. Do you happen to have any advice on how I can stop this? Or what I should do? Never in my years of playing the sims has this ever happened to me. The update before this recent one really wrecked everything.

It started to do it now. I took out all of my cc and repaired the game + got rid of webkit but it even then crashed at the gallery. So I did a complete wipe out of the game and also origin. I followed your instructions from your blog. Afterwards the game started up and did not crash at the gallery with both my previous saves and tray folders included (because I thought it was some corrupted files in the tray folder but it turned out not to be true). I started to put cc back my mods folder when it again crashed at the gallery. These same cc files I have were cleared when I played it last. I can't understand what is corrupting them still.
