Re: Sims 4 will not launch since October 2024 patch

The dx9 thing is irrelevant for Mac users. Please can you provide more information about your Mac. Instructions on how to do so and what to provide here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612396/highlight/true#M162 and also the details of the external display.

Don't just move out a few files and folders that you think may be the issue from the Sims 4 folder, that is not proper troubleshooting. Rename or move the entire Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts then attempt to launch the game. A new Sims 4 folder will be created. Does the game work?

  • Oh my god.. taking out the whole Sims 4 folder did it!! It launched as a brand new game. And now it launched fine with all my mods, saves, etc. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't reinstalling the whole game have had the same effect? Doesn't that also create a whole new Sims 4 folder? Like what was the issue causing this not to launch then? The only reason I was going folder by folder to troubleshoot was because I assumed I had tried every "first level" fix, including fully reinstalling the game. Just curious to know how this fixed it! So grateful! <333

    Great 🙂

The game installation is nothing to do with the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts which is created when you launch the game. So uninstalling and reinstalling is a complete waste of time.

The first thing you should always try is a clean Sims 4 folder and repairing the game. It's detailed in the stickied help thread in this Mac forum https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612398#M163
