Yes, I understand. The Legacy version of the game requires the current version to also be installed.
Thanks for your specs. Unfortunately you can no longer play the game on your Mac. It does not support Metal which means that since November 2019 you have been running the Legacy version of the game. The April patch, which you must have downloaded and updated your game in May, finally made the Legacy version unplayable. Please see the opening post on page 1 for more info and further clarification on why your Mac cannot now run the Sims 4.
Your only option is to install the game on a Metal compatible Mac. Your 2007 iMac cannot be upgraded. I'm honestly really impressed that the Legacy version of the game ran on your machine as it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. I used to have a Windows, but since I got this iMac almost two years ago I have been playing it fine on here up till February of this year until I tried in May. How do I instal the game on Metal so I can play?

You don't, you can't. If you read the opening post it will answer all your queries. I really don't know much about technology so if I was to get a new iMac what criteria would meet the requirements to play?
And how do I get back to the opening post?

The current iMac lineup all play the game very well.
The opening post is on page 1 of this thread. Okay. Thank you for your help.
