Re: [WORKAROUND] [MAC] Black photos

I have the same issue – selfies taken with cell phone camera were black both in sim's inventory and displayed on a wall (they looked normal in screenshot capture manager and screenshots folder). This is a save I started today for testing purposes – so no mods and no cc. Sim was at level one photography skill, but on level 5 (cheated) and with the most expensive camera the issue persisted. I also tried it on different lots. I have everything on the highest settings, except for lighting (just high) and edge smoothing (low).

EDIT to say the game was repaired and caches cleared before starting the save.

What kind of graphics card do you have ?

I have AMD Radeon R9 M370X, which I think is not super compatible with TS4 - I'm not happy with fps, even on lower settings. But never had any problems with photos being black before.

All I can say is that I'm taking photos ok since the patch but I recalled on sims community someone said they had used paint by reference and were having black photos.  I haven't used paint by reference since the patch. Of course crinrict would know but I felt like there was some bug before ( and fixed before) that was similar. 

Yes, black Photos are nothing new but before it affected most people. 

Mine are fine.

Can anyone tell me if just new ones are affected or also existing ones ?

Please disable the retina setting in your game options, that should help.

turned off retina setting, still getting black pictures taken by phone camera after installing city living, play on mac book pro.

I'm having this issue (at least since the City Living Update) and none of the previously mentioned fixes worked for me.

I'm running TS4 mod-free on a Macbook Pro Retina running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5.

Thanks @crinrict, turning off retina worked for me.  I even turned retina back on during the painting, and it continued to display.  I'm guessing it has something to do with the moment of screen capture, then?

Here's my Sim admiring her masterpiece!  Notice that with the retina setting re-enabled, the image shows up on the canvas but NOT in the thumbnail of my Sim's activity feed.  Interesting...

The same problem appears to me. I'm not Mac user, I've got Windows 7. Some old photos got black that were hanging on the wall, but new ones too. So, might there be a solution for me too?

I've turned of retina and the photos work but is there any work around yet as unchecking retina display makes game look super choppy and i hate it... ☹️

I play the sims on my Mac Book and I barley got into the sims 4 and I love it but it's just that all my sim's photography turns out pitch black like nothing shows up. I've tried taking the pictures with their cell phones, all three different camera choices, the photo studio, I even got her to the level 10 in photography but still nothing. Please whoever thinks they know how to fix it please reply.
