Save Data Lost

Okay, this is going to be long but I'll do my best to explain everything. My sims 4 game was working perfectly fine (I have a macbook, and it still worked great), I had CC and mods as well, which worked great. I was on origin about to launch my Sims game when I saw that it needed an update? So I updated it??? And??? Everything went horribly wrong??? So basically, when I played the game after the update, a notification popped up telling me my mods were disabled. So I was like, "Oh, easy, I'll just enable custom content and script mods". So I do that, exit the game and re-open and nothing is working, my game won't load and it keeps saying it's not responding so I'm like, "OH. It must be the mods..." So I open my EA folder and temporarily move my Mods folder to the trash, then I open the game and it works fine. My household is saved and it's there, everything is great. But no, it gets worse because now I realize I want my mods back so I look up how to bring them back and have the game still run. I find this video that tells me to "repair" the game on Origin, and so I do. Then after repairing the game I search for my EA folder and it's not there??? Like it was literally non-existent, so then I look up (once again) how to solve this issue, someone tells me to use the Spotlight search and look up "documents", then the folder would be there. And it worked! I'd found the folder, but no. When I dragged the folder from the search and into my applications, I had looked through it and all my saves, mods, CC, houses -- you name it -- were all there. So it worked, right? No, it didn't. Because when I opened my Sims game to play, it had me create??? a new??? household??? ALL of the items from my gallery are gone and I spent 2 1 h o u r s on this game I feel like such an idiot because like??? All of my time??? Wasted. So I'm totally lost and I realize the chance of someone even replying to this is completely out of the question. But I felt like I needed to say this. Anyway, thanks EA for wasting my time and thanks to whoever responds to this in like December 2021 xx

  • @kawaiisims261  Regardless of how much EA happens to be paying at any given time, there are always a few people here who are happy to help out a fellow player.

The first thing to note is that mods have to be updated to match your game.  So you'll need to check the sites where you found your mods to find out if they're compatible with your game's patch level.  If not, you won't be able to use them until they're updated as well.

The second thing is that the reason your game prompted you to create a new household is that it couldn't find your game folder.  (I'm not talking about the program files, which live in applications, but the folder that contains your saves, mods, etc.)  TS4 will only look in your EA folder in Documents on your computer; if the folder is anywhere else (you put it in Applications?), the game will generate a new one with none of your existing content.  This can also be a problem if you're allowing your Documents folder to sync with iCloud, as that would remove the folder from your hard drive.

One other thing to know is that sometimes an update can corrupt your game folder.  Thus, the best practice is to drag that folder out of Documents and onto your desktop when you're ready to update, and then remove your mods or run the game without custom content until the mods have been updated as well.
