Shadows are flickering

Since the January 14-Update, shadows are flickering.

The game is running fine. I can play but it's a constant flickering inside and outside. It's simple as that.

Images bellow to understand better what I'm talking about :

I've repaired, uninstall/reinstall, with/without mods, started a new save, edge smooth-trick. Not a single change.

I'm on Intel, iMac 2017 5K 27".

  • Was having the same issue, flickering shadows, straight after installing the update. My MacBook was playing fine prior to this.

I am running a 2024 MacBook Pro, Apple M4 with 48GB of memory. MacOS Sequoia 15.2.

For me moving or deleting the ConfigOveride folder, and then loading into the game worked. The flickering has stop.

I think I had made changes to GraphicsRules.SGR for one reason or another, when I installed the game on my new device at Christmas.

Anyway it has resolved my issue. It may or may not solve yours, as there appears to be multiple reasons why the game might behave in this way on a Mac.

    Good Luck.

Edit - if anyone is experiencing this, please see this updated thread - [CURRENT ISSUE] Objects and lighting flickering since 14/01 patch | EA Forums - 11858542 (BluebellFlora)

  • Will reply to myself in case me or someone else need the info one day : deleted the folder in Documents and it seemed to be the solution.

So, try to quick option: delete the Options.ini and it might be the solution.

@FrankeeCuddles76 Thank you so much! Removing Options.ini and letting a new sims 4 folder generate didn’t help me but taking out my graphics overhaul mod (simp4sims) located in Config Override did!
The constant flickering was unbearable :/

  • Product: The Sims 4
    Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.112.481.1230
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All but a couple of the kits and crystal creations SP
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Load into any lot
What happens when the bug occurs? Shadows for world objects flickering rapidly
What do you expect to see? Regular shadows
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes but I have removed them
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. The latest patch to version 1.112.481.1230

I am observing rapidly flickering shadows in my game after this latest patch to version 1.112.481.1230. Appears that world objects shadows are rendering incorrectly. This only happens when the mouse or camera is not moving. I have repaired my game, removed cache files, and all mods, and started a new save. The issue persists unless i turn the lighting graphics setting to low. I have played with graphics on very high for years without ever seeing this, until this latest patch when I observed it immediately when playing.

  • Update: Discovered that the culprit was a config override I'd installed years ago and completely forgotten was even there! The patch updated the way mac handles graphics and that file is no longer compatible! Just in case anyone stumbles across this and is having the same issue!
