SIMS 4 Black Screen in Windowed Mode

Hey.

Since I've updated my mac to the Mac OS Mojave update, my Sims 4 game will appear black in windowed mode, nothing at all is on screen. As soon as I enter fullscreen mode it works fine! It's just a pain because I don't really like playing in fullscreen mode! I've taken out my mods, changed my screen size/ resolution settings, and anything else I can think of that might be making it unable to play in windowed mode. It does play in windowed mode when I pull the screen size down past the dock bar at the bottom... But that means I won't be able to use the bottom bar in the game - as it's covered by the dock bar...

I had about 28 GB of work just on my desktop which I've moved completely off my macbook in order for it to run correctly and I'm still getting a blackscreen.

Has this happened for anyone else or is it just a problem I'm having? Seems like this update has messed a lot of stuff up for some people.

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks

So for future reference for anyone else having the same issue, I removed my Sims 4 folder to my desktop, played the game so it generated a new folder and moved back my saves folder and Mod folder.

HOWEVER, there was something in my Mod folder that was causing it to crash. After going through all my CC to find the culprit, I found out it must have been my OLD Resource.cfg in my mods folder causing the issue as all my CC were running fine.

-When the game regenerates a new sims 4 folder, a new Mods folder appears. Move all your CC into the NEW Mod folder (Do not drag your copied Mod folder into it) - deleting the old Resource.cfg file thats left.

Just move everything into a fresh new Mod folder!

So it's most likely the Resource.cfg file causing the problem!

    Hope this makes sense.

  • Try moving the entire Sims 4 folder out onto your Desktop and do NOT delete it. This is where your saved games are stored. Then restart the game and allow a new Sims 4 folder to generate and start a new game playing for about an hour to make sure everything else is working correctly.

Change your settings to play in Window mode and try restarting the game once more to see if this still occurs. Something in one of the mods may still have been lingering in your old Sims 4 folder causing the black screen.

Thank you! When I did this is it was playing fine in windowed mode... can I now move my game saves and other stuff back into the new sims 4 folder?

Yes, once your game runs fine again. You can then move our saved games back into the folder.

  • Hello! I was having the windowed black screen problem but now that I moved my Sims 4 folder onto my desktop, my game loads! But, it zooms in, like normal, but when it tries to slide to the right, into the game like it normally would. It gets stuck halfway and half my screen is black.

Would anyone be able to help?

    P.S I am on Mac.
