Sims 4 crashes constantly on Late 2012 iMac

I have the iMac model listed below. Just loaded the game a few days ago and after playing for a number of hours and getting everything set up they way I want it, the game now crashes after about 5 minutes of play. I've read through the threads to find fixes, but unfortunately none of them have helped. Including looking for a new driver from Nvidia. I could not fin one for OS 10.11.6.  Does anyone know of a way to fix the crashes so we can keep playing the game?

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012)

2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB

Thank you for providing the link. I noticed it is for the UK not the US. I searched in the US due to my location. Will the UK version work?

I chatted with NVIDIA tech support and they stated that NVIDIA does not make a driver for the iMac version of the card. The link you sent me is apparently for The desktop pro version of a Mac and not an iMac according to the Nvidia rep. He said I need to contact Apple about the issue. Or buy a new video card. Not worth it to play a $30 video game. I'll be requesting a refund. Thank you very much for all your help.

If you read the bottom of the release notes it states that it provides beta support for a few Macs, yours being one of them. I'm currently running the driver on my MacBook Pro with a significant boost in performance in the game. I didn't actually suffer from the issue you have but my game was starting to slow down. As soon as I switched to the NVIDIA driver (you can choose whether to run the Apple driver or NVIDIA one) my game was super fast again.. It isn't normal practise to update from the vendor as all updates come from Apple but it is the only solution for this issue (and Apple hasn't updated the drivers for ages unfortunately). You cannot buy a new video card for your iMac, only the Mac Pro has a replaceable card.
