sorry for the late reply, i forgot to check this thread haha
Move that Sims 4 Legacy folder in Documents > Electronic Arts to your desktop and launch the game to create a new one. Close the game without saving and move the contents, not the folder but just the contents, of your moved saves folder into the newly created one. Launch the game to check it loads the saves as it should. Now do the same with the Mods files.

same thing happened, unfortunately. it created another new folder and version of itself and launched that one. it didn't have a single one of my saves, either. got same message as top post. sorry to keep bothering you with this.

startup disk macintosh HD

***my family have been unable to update sierra, we won't get into that but it crashes our mac for a while every time we try
