Have you tried a completely new Sims 4 folder? https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612394#M163

Yes I've tried that as well as repairing the game in origin but the issue is still there

Ok. Is there a lastCrash report in the Sims 4 folder? Please copy/paste the contents or attach it to a post here.- 4 years ago
No sorry, I can't find a lastcrash report

That’s odd, if it’s crashing there should be one.
If you’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and tried a brand new clean vanilla game with no previous saves, settings, tray items and other previous user data then not sure what the problem could be.
Maybe your 8-year old Mac is starting to struggle as more content is added to the game and the requirements increase?
