sims

I play the sims 4 on a macbook and recently i ran out of storage so i looked around and some say that i could either use an external hard drive or a thumb drive . But i see mixed reviews on both of them . One says that using an external hard drive will only make the game go slower and make loading times slower . Another says that using a thumb drive is terrible considering that the sims 4 is a heavy game to run and it might damage my usb drive in all . So im unsure on what to do . Worse case scenario that i was thinking about doing is just purchasing a whole new laptop thats strictly for gaming . What should i do ?
