I don't think it ever asked for that access; origin on opening asked for admin password which I gave it, but I don't recall any other pop-ups.

Hmm. Maybe that’s the problem. Check in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Files & Folders and make sure the game, not Origin, has access to your Documents folder.

On my admin account it has the access; on the new account there's not a way to give it access, I think it hasn't been able to load far enough to ask or that it accepts the access the admin has idk

If it has access but not loading on your main account then I have no idea what the problem could be ☹️ If you set up a standard account for the testing it should have prompted for an administrator to allow permission to access the Documents folder but that's largely irrelevant now anyway.
If you ever do figure out a solution please take a minute to post back here what the fix was. It will help others who may have the same problem as you. - 2 years ago
By some miracle the game has spontaneously started working on my admin account! Maybe my sims decided to end their strike? I think that the action of making a new account and double checking that the permissions were correct fixed it somehow.
