@crinrict It happens on every household I try to place Sulani, even after a fresh save. It has been a problem from the beginning. I thought that it was a part of the gameplay at first, except that my roommate does not have the same issue. We have all of the same packs, no Seasons and no mods. I've tried repairing the game and re-downloading all of my packs but those don't seem to have changed anything.
So I've included some screenshots from two different households from two different saves that show how the clouds get more prominent as I zoom out until it obscures the screen completely. It happens on every lot on every island. The last picture is of my sim swimming in the ocean and taking a picture of the island covered by the fog.
I have no idea about the sunbathing thing but on the Mac side, can you please update Mojave in System Preferences to 10.14.6, your version is very out of date. See if that helps. Could you also post a screenshot of your in-game graphics settings.
Which Mac does your friend have and which OS are they running?

@Bluebellflora @crinrict I updated my computer and fiddled with the graphics and I think it's sort of fixed.
My graphics settings were on low. If I switch it over to medium or low medium then the clouds go away (I also assume the clouds are gone in high and ultra but didn't test those). The clouds come back if I switch it back to low.
My sims can now sunbathe on the beach on beach towels but my mermaid sim cannot sunbathe in the water because "it is too cloudy".
So it's not fully fixed but is sort of fixed.
