I've moved your posts to this single thread you started, no need to post in multiple threads 🙂

El Capitan was released after Mountain Lion, you're lucky it was working.

The issue with packs not showing as installed is extensively covered in the Sims 3 Mac help thread, the Unknown Error links and in multiple other places on this forum and beyond. Origin does not install the packs on a Mac, an external installer launches and prompts for the serial code after downloading through Origin - are you playing in Boot Camp?

I Haven't got boot camp added this time. I did have before but since my registry files became corrupted a while back I had to reformat my MacBook and install El Captain then update to High Sierra. Do you think I might need bootcamp?

    Sims 3 always plays better in Windows, the Mac port using Cider was awful and the cause of most of the problems. If you read the help thread I linked to it will answer a lot of your questions 🙂
