4K Portrait Interface Conflicts

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.50.67.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Vampires, Get Together, Spooky Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Using a 4K Monitor set the resolution to 3840x2160 in either Fullscreen or Windowed Fullscreen mode and start playing. Right click one of the Sim portraits in the lower left corner to have the camera follow them and then move the cursor off the portrait in any direction, even up.
What happens when the bug occurs? Because the portrait icons are so comparatively small to the rest of the screen, they are actually stuck within what the game considers the "edge" of the screen, so when you try to move the cursor away from the portrait, even straight up, the camera control tries to pull the camera down as if I was intentionally dragging the cursor to the edge of the screen to move the camera. This cuts the auto-follow camera and makes it impossible to use without keeping my cursor constantly on the portrait.
What do you expect to see? I expect to be able to move my cursor off the portrait without it moving the camera like I'm dragging it to the edge.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

I think the easiest solution, and this would also help with accessibility as the text and icons in 4K resolution are tiny, would be to increase the text size and icon size for the UI in 4K resolution. As is, it retains the same icon size as 1080p from what I can tell, but the edge drag area is scaled with the resolution change, so they conflict. The non-scaling icons and text also makes things just incredibly small and hard to look at, too, but that's more of an accessibility issue and I will make a post to the Ideas forum for that too. This, however, breaks my camera function.

Moving this to tech issues for further troubleshooting and infon

  • Sorry, been busy with work. I have looked over the page you suggested and that is exactly what I was looking for. Since the option is available in the ini file, I'm surprised it's not a standard option from within the game like resolution is. Thank you for the help, sorry for the long awaited reply.

I did notice, however, that it does the same thing in my wife's game if she doesn't move the mouse off the portrait fast enough, and she plays in 1080P.

    That would be great.

I've forwarded your thread. I'm not sure if it's a bug at this point but I will make sure they see that it also happens on lower res.
