all interactions are impossible

Hello,

I'm playing The Sims 4 on PC and I'm having a problem that I don't understand. This morning, my game was working, but I didn't change a thing when I turned it back on this evening, after the update.

It's impossible to interact with anything: when I click on an object or a Sim, there's no menu allowing me to choose an action. However, if I do nothing, time runs smoothly.

My mouse also works, as I can access the game's various menus.

I don't have any mods

I deleted the game's cache folders: no change.

I've repared the game :  no change.

I've changed games, played with a pre-existing household, changed neighborhoods, created a new game: all the same.

I've tried to fix the game: no change.

I can't find any solutions to this problem. Do any of you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

  • @Sabinebulle  Do you hear the usual clicking sound when you try to click something?  I'm wondering whether the click is registering at all.

Either way, please disable any apps you use that come with overlays: Discord, Steam, etc.  Disable the EA App in-game overlay as well; the option is under Settings > Application.

    Thank you for your help

    Unfortunately, the advice didn't help.

I can't hear the mouse click (except on the console buttons, which work fine).

I have the same problem in game but also in CAS and in construction and purchase mode: I can't modify a sim (clothing or other) or place an object on the ground.
In the latter case, I can select an object in the catalog but not place it on the ground (I have a “hand closed” mouse icon but nothing happens).

I tried to repair the game: nothing
I uninstalled then reinstalled: still nothing.

@Sabinebulle  Please try playing in a clean boot:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd

The one service to leave enabled is the EABackgroundService, which the EA App needs in order to run.  Disable the rest as described.

When you reboot your computer, go through the Task Manager's background processes list shutting down any service that doesn't absolutely need to be running, for example anything from MSI Afterburner to RGB software might still be enabled.  If you accidentally kill a critical process and it doesn't restart on its own, just reboot your computer again.

Don't open anything other than Sims 4 and the EA App while testing, not even a browser window.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to your reply.

Separately, another user reported that switching to DirectX 9 mode helped them.  You can try it too if your system uses DX11 mode by default; the option is with the other graphics settings, in the lower-right corner.
