Broken Save Files
Hi! So this one is a bit of a doozy and I just want to know if I've exhausted my options and if I should just give up. So, I made a rookie mistake. My PC was warning me that my storage was almost full and long story short I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling my game (I had made some questionable decisions in moving stuff around) but I forgot to keep a copy of my saves folder. I used a program to recover the deleted saves so I technically have them, but the Sims won't read them properly. I'm guessing that the deletion wiped the data out of the saves and that they're unusable, but I would just like to know if there are any options I have at fixing this.
@smartichoke Recovery software doesn't always, and sometimes can't, recover all the data associated with given files. The remaining data may or may not be enough for the associated program to open the file, and in this case, it sounds like the saves are not intact enough for the game to read them. There's unfortunately nothing you can do about this—that extra data is gone.
What you can try though is manually recovering your backup saves, that is if you have any. The save files with a .verx extension on the end are the backups; delete that .verx, and the game would theoretically be able to read them as well. (Remove any nonworking saves first, so you're not trying to have multiple files with the same name in the same folder.) Maybe you'll get lucky and one of the backups will work.
