CANNOT LOAD MY GAME IN SIMS 4

A few times now, randomly, when I open the Sims 4, it comes up with an orange box in the right-hand corner that says: 
"the game you are tying to load is a newer version of the sims 4. Please update your game."
WHAT CAUSES THIS AND HOW DO I STOP THIS! 
I have had to replay many, many games due to this! 
My game is fully updated, with no mods or CC, and the only DLC i have are the updated patches and the new Outdoor Retreat.
(However this issue started before i installed OR)
